澳洲外海海底 發現數千萬年火山

（法新社雪梨13日電） 科學家今天指出，雪梨外海發現數千萬年前的海底火山群，這可能有助於解開澳洲與紐西蘭之間海底的秘密。

澳洲上個月在尋找龍蝦苗養殖場時，在最大城雪梨外海約250公里處發現這4座死火山。

澳洲國立大學（Australian National University）火山專家艾克勒斯（Richard Arculus）表示，這些火山分布範圍約20公里，可透過它們「一探（海底下方的）地函層」。

「每日郵報」（Daily Mail）報導，艾克勒斯說：「這些火山可以告訴人類，紐西蘭和澳洲約8000萬到4000萬年前如何分開，而且可以幫助科學家鎖定日後要探究的海床，解開地殼的秘密。」

科學家認為這幾座火山約有5000萬年歷史，由於位在4900公尺深的海底，所以即使最大的火山口寬1.5公里，且從海底上升了700公尺，卻直到現在才被發現。

艾克勒斯指出，藉由研究這些死火山的火山岩成分，或許能進一步判定底下地函層的成分。（譯者：中央社林仟懿）
